“Historical superb facilities and services ”

My friend recommended me this place so I came to Izu solely for it. The public transportations to Shuzenji isn’t easy due to different railways and systems. However the experience and value are next to none. I highly recommend it.

Thank you very much for staying at our ryokan. On the first day, your arrival was significantly delayed due to train trouble. Normally it would be difficult to serve dinner at this time, but you emailed us your arrival time and we made special arrangements for you. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to seeing you again.

“If there is a paradise on earth, it would be the Arai Ryokan.”

When a family of four in their 20s to 40s visited Shuzenji, we used it as our accommodation. The beautiful scenery and the four public baths with different themes, along with the garden where you can enter wearing geta, were excellent for taking photos, and both the onsen and the accommodation felt like special places. In particular, the view from the outdoor bath beyond the underground tunnel was stunning, with the blue moon nestled among the clouds being incredibly charming. You can really feel that the staff treats the guests very well. Almost all the staff greet you in the lobby upon check-in, which might be a bit overwhelming for introverted people. The kaiseki dinner was long and overall really delicious. If you’re not fond of Japanese food, it might be a bit challenging. The accommodation was also clean, and the view from the window was excellent. When we visited, it was spring, and the falling cherry blossoms outside the window created a movie-like atmosphere. The downside is that Shuzenji’s accessibility is not that great, and since the tatami room is a bit older, there might be some small bugs. However, you can feel that the entire facility is cleaned very thoroughly, so the downsides are not really noticeable. Having been around since 1872, there seems to be a sense of pride, and you understand why they have that pride once you experience it.

Thank you very much for staying with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed the scenery and hot springs, especially the view from the open-air bath and the cherry blossom petals from your room. We are also pleased to hear that the Japanese kaiseki cuisine was delicious overall. If you are not a fan of Japanese cuisine, we can also arrange for a course that includes steak in the kaiseki cuisine, or for breakfast to be Western-style. Please feel free to contact us. We look forward to seeing you again.

    “Great service”

Was a very pleasant experience. The onsen facilities were amazing, the free and paid private baths were also nice to have. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable accompanied with a nice view of the river. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast had very fresh food and tasted fantastic. Only issue would be that it's hard to find out much information about the Ryokan on Agoda itself and Arai's main website is barely functional. Would definitely come back if I was passing by in the fall or winter.

    “Great for Vegetarians”

Fabulous property and a great option for vegetarian travellers in Japan. Lovely vegetarian kaiseki dinner and mix of Japanese/western style breakfast offered. Private onsen also available. Would highly recommend!

    “Rejuvenating stay”

We had a very relaxing time here. The property is gorgeous and the rooms are comfortable. Our dinner and breakfast were both delicious- although they were not served in our room directly- make sure you book the correct room if you are looking for that. The baths were very clean and accessible. Dinner is served either at 6 or 6:30pm and breakfast either at 8 or 8:30am. They come to your room during dinner and before breakfast to put out and put away the futons.
