Good hotel in an amazing location”

Location inside Taman Negara park, kid friendly, relaxing

we have just returned from a really enjoyable 4 day weekend at mutiara taman negara. we drove directly to kuala tahan in our own car. after reading some negative reviews of mutiara we didn't have overly high expectations but we actually found the resort to be just fine, great in fact. the thing is that this is the only resort actually inside the park so you pay a premium for the privilege but after visiting the area i just wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. okay, the furniture in our family chalet had seen better days but we weren't there for the interior decoration and it was very clean, the beds were comfortable, service was friendly and we loved our little balcony facing onto the world's oldest rainforest and the noise of the jungle at night. the buffet breakfast included in the room was good quality and the meals at the restaurant were fine at night for variety we would catch a taxi boat over to one of the floating restaurants on the other side of the river where food was good and cheap. the main attraction for us was the park and it didn't disappoint. with two young kids we were unable to do the more adventurous treks but we did the canopy walk circuit (unguided) a guided night walk which is highly recommended and a boat trip up the river which was really the highlight. we saw a good variety of wildlife including loads of insects, a bird eating spider the size of a my husband's hand, deers, birds, wild boars and cheeky monkeys. overall we had a really good stay and if you are spending any time in malaysia i would highly recommend including taman negara on the itinerary.

Amazing experience 💕”

So so glad that we stayed here instead of Kuala Tahan. But bear in mind, the pricing at mutiara is higher compare to others. ( RM 270/pax for 3d2n) Food in the resort was amazing. I recommend trying the Malaysian cuisine (get the sharing set). The sardine sambal was amazing. We had this meal for 2 days consecutively 💕💕💕 we tried “MAMA” the floating restaurant, it was okay ¿ would recommend to try it for the experience but don’t expect amazing food :) The activities available is like between chill and adventure. I would totally recommend Lata Berkoh, we took a boat ride for an hour and hiked for 30 mins to see the cascading water 😍. Night trekking was good too, it was around the “swamp loop” not towards any hill. You would mostly see insects only, so don’t have high expectation. My highlight was the tapir sighting 💕💕💕 we were at tahan hide. The guide said we were very lucky

Wonderful Jungle experience”

Walks, Wildlife friendly helpful staff

We stayed at Mutiara Taman Negara Resort for a week in late April 2013 and had a wonderful holiday relaxing, spending time watching wildlife and bird watching. The Resort is in the final stages of major refurbishment and the cottages are excellent and well-spaced throughout the large gardens. The restaurant provide excellent food so we didn't try the cheaper local food available at the floating restaurants on the Tembling River. The staff were all friendly and courteous and the operations manager Satiyasilan Maniam was particularly helpful. As we were interested in bird watching Rumian "Gingo", the bird watching expert, was very helpful with advice about where to find the unusual and rare birds all within a short distance of the resort. Big thankyou to all the staff.

The best resort in Taman Negara”

Location, activities, nature

We love Mutiara Taman Negara for its location. It is the ONLY resort located within Taman Negara and u can enjoy direct access to the jungle. A path leading to the canopy walkway is easily accesible via the hotel compound. Nature activities packages are provided by the hotel(charges apply). There's a decent restaurant but for those who prefer local restaurants, plenty are available with via a quick boatride.

Great experience ”

Staff were mostly friendly especially the residence manager who gave good tips which made our experience a well worth one. Food (both bfast and dinner) were good and delicious too. The black sambal was exceptional. Chalet was clean and comfortable. Managed to see barking deer at the tahan hide twice and wild fowl which was a great experience. Overall, we loves it and would be back again for the other 2 hides in Taman negara.

Best spot to stay if you're visiting Taman Negara”

Location, family sized room for price of a double.

There's lots of other backpackers and hostels in this area, but Mutiara is the best place to stay if you're visiting Taman Negara. In fact, most of the tours or access to the Canopy Walk etc start from Mutiara. Access across the river is quick, easy and cheap at 1RM per person per crossing. The hotel offers a lot of tours at reasonable prices but we booked across the river with the private tours and instead of being on a tour of 12 from the hotel we were on a tour of 2 people so we saw and heard a lot more. Upon check in you'll be given a map. Make sure you go to the office before 6pm to pay for a park permit and photo licence. Wear comfy shoes, buy water and snacks for the tours and take mosquito spray. If you're a female travelling alone ask for a room closer to the lobby or restaurant as the hotel is very spread out and some of the chalets are very isolated. We were room 101 and it was about a 10 minute walk from the lobby - on sore legs after having done a lot of walking. Restaurant food is ok but expensive. We had great meals for one tenth of the price across the river.

Excellent”

The location of the resort hotel and staff are excellent and friendly as all the Taman Negara activities start from here. We spent 4D3N here and were not enough to cover and explore the areas with track roads & river cruise. Off-track road is out of question here as it is impossible to explore with young family ...... My family demands to visit back again in future. The only drawback is that it is pricey at the Mutiara Restaurant but the food & beverages are generally very good..

Can't get closer to Taman Negara”

This is a great resort right at the entrance to Taman Negara. You literally cannot get closer to the entrance. The cabins are well cared for and the grounds well tended, although the monkeys try their best to wreak havoc. The resort restaurant produces a good variety of western and local food that is very tasty. The beef rendang was particularly nice. Breakfast was simple but had an adequate variety - if you're hiking you don't want to have a heavy breakfast anyway. The resort also offers a limited range of activities, including boat cruises along the river, night walks, and guided walks, but all of these requite a minimum of four people. Unfortunately the boat cruises only leave at 9:30 and 2:30 - times when there is little chance you'll see any wildlife. It would be great if they could offer such tours at dawn and dusk, when native animals are likely to come to the river in search of food or water.

Perfectly situated right at the Kuala Tahan gate for the National Park. Room is clean, with sounds of nature surround us at night. A very friendly staff (Mr. Sakhti, if not mistaken)had chit chat with us and shared few tips on the trekking up to Bukit Teresek and canopy walkway. Food at the restaurant was good. Will recommend this hotel to those who seek adventure and also relaxing :)

Great location in a lovely rain forest”

good stay, helpful staff, great location

Stay at hotel was good, helpful staff. On the location : the taman negara park itself is beautiful, great options for trekking, rapid-shooting, the canopy walk is a must-do. kids (8 and 4) enjoyed the park and the swim in the river. Options for activities, food and transport within the resort are atleast 40% more expensive than those within the village opposite. Dinner at the floating restaurants outside the resort (take a boat to the other bank from mutiara) are recommended. We found the travel option arranged by Mutiara tiring and expensive - 3 hrs from KL by minibus, and another 2 hours by boat, abt 120 Ringitt pax. NKS travels and Danz travels offers land transfer options which cost 50% lesser and take lesser time. Travel time to taman negara from Kuala lumpur is about 5 hrs each way, a 2-day trip might not be worth the travel time.

Amazing stay right in the middle of Jungle. ”

Everything is too good. Location is amazing, enjoyed every single minute of my stay in the resort. Staff is highly cooperative, don't remember the names of few including Ms. Farah for giving us the closest chalet to lobby. It was reserved at the end of the resort but as per requested she immediately gave us chalet 6 right next to lobby and under tree shades (much cooler). I extend one more night because of being close to restaurant, lobby and main entrance towards Mutiara. Loved the room, washroom was big and clean. Shower was excellent with hot water. Breakfast buffet was great. Enjoyed trekking and cannopy walk starting within the range of Mutiara. Price is bit high but acceptable for many because of many positive things.

Jungle resort”

It is located on the right side (Taman Negara park side) of the river, it has the best comfort in the area, it has good dining facilities

We wanted a good and comfortable place for our stay at Taman Negara, and it was a great plus that it was situated on the national park side of the river, however the river crossing is not expensive and the boats go on order, i.e. as often as you want and for a small fee. But it is just nice to have a before breakfast or after dinner walk in the jungle side, a thing which you might not do if staying in some other hotel on the other side of the river. The restaurant is also very good and serves also food and drinks which might be sometimes sought after by westerners. We liked the stay, the chalet was wonderful and the nature experience even better.

Great stay, clean chalets”

The hotel is great and conveniently located at the Taman Negara itself. However the chalet I stayed in was very far inside and took about 15mins walk from the lobby itself. It will be a far walk and troublesome if you keep on going in and out of your chalet (if you happen to be staying at the one far inside). If you are lucky to be staying near the lobby, that would be great. Breakfast was also good and staff are friendly and helpful. At night you may hear noises made from animals nearby as it IS inside the rainforest. There's also a cart with a track where you can put your luggage and it'll be pulled up as there is many flights of staircases. You will need to cross the river by boat (RM1) to get to the hotel.

stayed in chalet, toilet is clean and has been renovated to 5star standard. mini fridge has seen better days thou workable. mattress is good but the bottom section bed needs changing from old age. tv is flat screen type, but the corners of the room needs cleaning. safety box and iron with board provided. floor could do with a new coat. room no 9 and 10 are located near the reception and located under the canopy of century old trees, so is shady and cooling during the day. main doors bottom could do with a strip of blocker to prevent frogs, snakes and insects from crawling into the room. had a viper and leaf frog in our room. mini market could do with more lower price range t-shirts and more variety of souvenirs of taman negara. breakfast was simple and lack of pastries. staff service was excellent and efficient. forestry dept has abdicated the duty of screening the educational taman negara video at nite like back in the old days at 8pm which is a perfect time after dinner and just before the nite walk at 8.30pm.
