good hotel for staying very near Jonker”

        location, facility, wifi

great hotel. very near Jonker, just a little walk to the Dutch Square. near Taman Kota Laksamana. check in and check out process is simple. staff was very helpful. one key room and one wireless main lobby key provided. there's no one except guests after around 05pm. my room is okay. air conditioner is okay. fan is okay. bed is okay. just the pillow is a bit thick so my neck is affected (a little :-D ). overall it is clean and good. my (only) concern is the alley floor since it was made from wood and I notice many people are walking carelessly hasty so it makes terrible noise. well, it doesn't really bother me so just FYI. main stair (rooms are on 2nd floor) is rather very steep. might want to consider for some people (elderly or having problems with foot etc.) bathrooms are shared located in the back of 2nd floor. it was good. water heater is working fine but who needs hot water after walking around when Melaka is very hot like yesterday (it was 32-36 degrees which feels like 42-46 degress as stated by accuweather :-) ) they provide internet connection which is working fine. I had no trouble at all. I didn't have chance to try their menu (Cafe 1511 is actually a place to eat on the 1st floor). maybe next trip, I will try as I'm going to put Cafe 1511 Guesthouse to my #1 preference to stay again in Melaka! see you on the next trip...

        Well situated ”

        good location, historically interesting

part of the historic baba nonya house museum, cafe 1511 guesthouse is the only one of three connected buildings that has been converted into a hotel. the guesthouse is very well located in the old quarter of melaka. because the original beautiful staircase with its large steps is still preserved, we were only able to stay one night because my wife was having problems with her knee. we didn't know that toilets and showers were shared and being a mature aged couple, we would have preferred to have our own bathroom. our room was very small and although quiet, we were troubled by light outside our door which made sleeping without an eyeshade difficult. however, other rooms were better in size and were darker at night. breakfast was excellent (and lovely staff), hotel was very clean throughout and free access to internet was appreciated.

        Comfortable, clean, perfect location

Very cozy historical building, makes you feel at home immediately. Great plus: cafè/restaurant at ground floor with convenient prices and good quality (breakfast was included in room price). Very convenient location but not as noisy as on Jonker Street. We stayed only one night but would have liked to stay more. If u are looking for a cheap but comfortable and clean place, Cafe 1511 Guesthouse is the perfect place for u

        Charming guesthouse with helpful staff”

        Free wi-fi, good location

it was my first time to stay at a hostel or guesthouse and 1511 did not disappoint. we booked a private double room for 1 night and found it very nice. it was tastefully decorated, with comfortable bed and sheets. though i prefer accommodations with ensuite bathrooms, the guesthouse set up was okay. they had a total of 3 common bathrooms for all the guests. the bathrooms were clean and i never had to wait to use one. the 1st floor is the cafe and the 2nd floor is the guesthouse. shoes/slippers are not allowed on the 2nd floor to maintain the cleanliness. good wi-fi strength and the free breakfast are the good features of 1511 guesthouse. you can watch tv/dvds, use their computer, and read books in the common areas (if you have time for those). the only complaint is the dirty ceiling fan in our room. though we used the air con, and not the fan, you can see the dust and cobwebs on it while lying on the bed. it was such a contrast from the clean surroundings.

        Unique Guesthouse in 'Old' Melaka.”

        Heritage Building, Outstanding Staff.

we booked 4 nights in café 1511 and were so happy we stayed an extra night. we were offered the attic room, which was very clean, comfortable, with aircon. this room is at the back of the house therefore avoiding the street noise. the guesthouse is in the middle of ‘old melaka’, adjacent to the baba nyonya heritage museum, one of the many historic sites in the city. the shared showers were not a problem, free wi-fi was available as were the use of the guesthouse computers. the owners, colin and pg were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble. the staff, noe and mya were charming and made us feel completely at home. the breakfast was delicious; make sure that you choose the local food! this is the most unique place that we have stayed in during our tour of malaysia. we shall certainly recommend this accommodation to our friends.

great hotel i ever stayed !!!”

It is like staying in a house dated back to 1800.

cafe 1511 is fantastic hotel. it is basically the same building as baba-nyonya museum. therefore, the hotel which i would rather say it is a house has the same feature as the museum. although, it looks quite vintage, the hotel is very clean and a bit modern inside. the shared bathrooms are so clean too so i don't have problem using that at all. breakfast in the morning offers many traditional food to american style. staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. they showed me where to find nice local food. overall, i love this hotel and will come back again surely.

A living Museum - A privelege to be able to stay. ”

        Excellent twin room, immaculately clean.

stayed 3 nights here and wanted to stay more. lovely historic place, wonderful host - colin and wonderful staff who made our stay very enjoyable. breakfast is delicious. i had the best laksa i've ever tasted! the shower rooms are the typical shower over the toilet affair which are not my favourite as you have to wipe down before using but that't typical of accommodation in asia so you don't really worry about it too much. moved into d'laksamana for two nights as kafe 1511 was full. colin has a magic touch when it comes to his accommodation. both absolutely fantastic and close to jonker. i would without a doubt in either one again. 10/10

        Super Awesome Guesthouse”

        Food, staff and location

This recent trip to Malacca is by far my best trip with the most beautiful memories with my loved one, all thanks to Café 1511 for the supreme love of Baba & Nyonya culture and everything else awesome! It was beyond good! The location is good, the food is fabulous, and the staff are super helpful and nice! Only one thing, maybe the toilet is a little bit too far from the room. Just that! :)

Great spot with a historical connection. ”

We really liked it. It's next store to the Baba,Nonya Heritage museum. The museum spans 2 buildings and is in the former mansion of a wealthy merchant family. 1511 Cafe is in the 3rd building and was the servants quarters. Location is walkable to everything. Rooms were clean. Cafe down stairs closes early but us very convent for breakfast.

        Super value for money”

delicious breakfast included. clean rooms, toilets, and dining area, great location within the city

A friend had recommended Cafe 1511 to us and she was right this is really a great place. Clean rooms and friendly staff, yummy breakfast every morning, very convenient location, and the room rate is very reasonable. The only drawback of such a central location is the street noise, but it will be quiter as it gets late.

        Great location

Conveniently located next to the core of Chinatown, Jonker Walk, Cafe 1511 is ideal for budget travelers. The only drawback is it's a little noisy during the night.

        Charming spirit of the history

nice small guesthouse, feels like you are staying in the museum. close to the jonker street, the main shopping street, also in the walking distance from the main turist atractions. in the house you can realy feel the spirit of the old times. the house is wooden, it can be noisy from the street trafic. the staff is friendly. the food and the service in the cafe were good.

        good location but. . . . ”

good location, good location, good location

This is my 3rd time at Cafe 1511. However, it is marked by a bad experience with a ok-service recovery. This time, i booked to stay for 2 nights. On the 1st night, there was bedbugs and i was bitten a least 4 times. Reported the mater the next morning. Thankful for staffs (Simon and Mya) who helped me with changing of accommodation after consulting their boss. To be fair, the bedbugs incident made victims out of me and Cafe 1511. I suffered a night of no sleep. Cafe 1511 is a victim of their success. Being reputed as a budget friendly accommodation, it attracted people who are well traveled and may have unknowingly brought the pests into Cafe 1511. Cafe 1511 suffered losses to keep the rooms vacant to send in pest control to eradicate the bugs. Cafe 1511 transferred me to another hostel run by them but its location is about 4 or 500 meters. Still prefers Cafe 1511.

Lovely setting, atmosphere, comfortable and sweet!”

Friendly, convenient location, affordable and wonderful

My partner and I loved the hotel the moment we stepped inside. The cultural decorations and simple homely setting took our initial fears about staying in a guest-house away. The hotel was located on the street just behind Jonker street, so it was really easily accessible and was not on the noisy side of the street. It is within 5 minutes walking distance to the famous Christ church area and has a secure access system at night so you don't have to worry. The room we got was a small simple room, but the amenities provided were all working condition and clean. There is a shared toilet, but its all very clean considering the fact that its just a small guest-house. Free-wifi is available, a pantry is also free for use to make coffee or tea, and there is a living room to watch TV! Breakfast provided was way better than we had ever expected from a simply backpackers style guest-house, it was fantastic! It was so good, to be able to walk back to put stuff after shopping, take a shower to freshen up and then go back out for some night shopping along Jonker street. It is definitely a place we would recommend!
