Where to stay in Houayxay
Houayxay hotels & accommodations

Deserted hotel, short of staff, no service, empty restaurant with dirty dishes left in the corner. The hotel is located 15 min from the city with taxi. The only thing that attracted us when booking is the fact that the hotel has a pool. However the pool is accessible from outside guests too for a fee.

Superb location. Clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff. I would (read: will likely) book again. II haven in Lao three times, last in Huay Xai before the new bridge was built. As all the immigration traffic, activities are now out of town (about 10 km south), Huay Xai is much chiller than it was. I decided to stay two days—and only headed out as I needed to find a cargo ...

Staff was great! Spoke English and helped organize our mekong river 2 day cruise. I highly recommend booking through them since we got assigned seating unlike the huge tour group that came in after us and ended up sitting on the floor or in the back near the engine. The room was basic but everything you need plus restaurants across the street.

The receptionist had no idea about my reservation, more interested in watching the TV and wouldn't give me a room. Spoke no English so I eventually got him to call the manager who apparently is never actually at the hotel. She eventually, by phone, agreed that I could stay! Paying extra for a river view is definitely worth it. The breakfast is terrible, as far as I can...

Hotel was clean with hot water in shower and comfy beds and right in heart of touristy part of town. Wasn't totally impressed with this town, overall. Prices are definitely high (relative to most of Laos and Thailand), and it seems this is because they know that people going to Gibbon Experience and slow riverboat have money to burn. Skip the breakfast here- it's overp...

The hotel is located slightly up the hill as soon as you reach the laos border. As others have mentioned the hotel was pretty much empty. The hotel is painted completely in gold but everything was of high quality and the bedrooms are huge. The beds wore by far the comfiest I've stayed in se Asia. I get the impression that the hotel was intended to be a luxury accommod...

We stayed in this hotel for a night following our border crossing from chiang khong. It is roughly 100 metres from the Lao immigration checkpoint so location is perfect. The rooms are comfortable, slightly basic but if you're just staying 1 or 2 nights its perfectly reasonable. Staff are very helpful. All in all a pleasant experience.

I only booked 1 night as I was getting the slow boat the next day (which the hostel kindly booked for me at a cheap price) The hostel obviously is pretty little! But cosy. The staff are so kind and helpful, the hostel is very clean and quiet, yet sociable. I had laundry done here which smelt great afterward! Would highly recommend, thank you!
