There's not much to say other than that the wonderful staff made our weekend absolutely magical!!! Our only complaint was that the shower in our room wouldn't find a suitable temperature, we could only get it to be too hot or too cold, but this isn't even a problem if you opt to shower and bathe in the onsen, which we did. A couple forewarnings, dinner isn't available ...
The hotel is obviously a few years old, but very clean. There is no gym and the pool was closed. The restaurant was only open for the buffet breakfast and dinner. These were a little expensive, but probably good value for money. Excellent food, Sushi, steak, salads, fish etc etc, well served, including beer or wine. Stayed one night. Room smelled like chlorine when I walked in because of bathroom. But clean, basic, okay food. For the price I paid, it wasn't a bad deal. Place is dated.
The host was such a nice person that made everything so pleasurable. I found this hotel through the words of mouths in Tokyo and everything I was told was true. It is very clean and there are only 6 rooms. There is a common room where the host serves us welcome drinks. It is one block away from the temple and a few minutes from the ferry. The hotel is situated just up the hill from the railway station, a little to far to walk if carrying cases, but a very short taxi ride. The hotel is located on the hillside near Matsushima Kaigan station. Though the distance is short but it’s extremely difficult to walk from the station along the narrow streets with luggage’s. Must get pickup and dropped off by the hotel shuttle bus. The reception staff drive the shuttle bus. Because we were there during the low season we didn’t have to wait long. But ...
Very good Ryokan with a nice view over the Matsushima bay. Even if your Japanese is far from being perfect the staff is extremely friendly and tries to help you in English. Hope that I will be able to return.
