    8-Bed Dormitory -- Female Only
Stayed 3 nights in December 2025

“Not A Safe or Comfortable Place To Stay”

I do not recommend Elizabeth Hostel and feel it’s important to warn others. This place did not feel safe and honestly felt more like a homeless shelter than a hostel. I was first assigned to an 8-bed female dormitory that looked as if someone was squatting there. There were piles of belongings and bags everywhere, and the room was extremely unsettling. I did not take photos because other people were present, and I was genuinely shaking and scared. I went back to reception and asked to change rooms. They moved me to another 8-bed female dormitory, which was slightly better, but still messy, smelly, and uncomfortable. There was a strange woman pacing back and forth around 10 p.m., which added to the feeling of unease. I paid for three nights but left after just one because I felt terrified by the environment. The lobby was also concerning—many random people hanging around, which did not feel normal for a hostel. I overheard another guest complaining to reception about a man in his dorm who wouldn’t stop talking to him and making him uncomfortable. The receptionist, in a raised voice, told him to “just ignore it,” which was very alarming and unprofessional. Additionally, the keys for both rooms I was assigned were very difficult to use, which added even more stress while checking in. Overall, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a hostel or inn. I did not feel safe or comfortable, and I would strongly advise others—especially female solo travelers—to stay elsewhere.

    “Road Runner. Aug 2025”

I have stayed at the Elizabeth Hostel over a few years on occasions coming from Overseas. The location is ideal, and the free public transport is just right outside the front door to anywhere in the city.....It offers a fully equipped kitchen and large cool room to store perishables and drinks etc......Level 2 is mainly a male occupancy, and can up to 25 males any one time.....The showers are fine,....but the toilets need cleaning at least 3 times a day .Once is nowhere near enough.....If your not bringing your mother with you, make sure you bring a towel, tooth brush, and soap ,and other toiletries. It's a Hostel not a Hotel.....There are Supermarkets close handy,...also Asian stores, that supply Chinese, Korean ,and Japanese foods etc. For short stay accommodation, coming to Melbourne, Give it a try,

    “Ok for the price ”

I stayed for four nights in July. So the weather was cool/cold. The dorm room i was in was warm, clean and bed was surprisingly comfortable Male toilets were dingy, showers cubicles cubicles were sparse with no seat or shelf to put your toiletries but the water was hot with good pressure so can't complain. Kitchen had all the facilities I needed for breakfast and to prepare simple meals. Laundry facilities were adequate with washer and dryer. There was insufficient public lounge areas imo where you could comfortably sit. I wasn't expecting much more. overall the hostel is looking tired but given it's location on Elizabeth st, you can't complain for the price acceptable were hot but only had tiny hooks to hang

    “William. Australia july 2025”

I have stayed at the Elizabeth hostel on numerous occasions over several years without any issues. It's located at the top of the city where there is a wide range of restaurants, supermarkets, that specialises in Chinese, Japanese and Korean types of foods. The venue has a large kitchen with necessary utensils to your own cooking if thats your thing. There is a large cool room for patrons to use to keep vegetables and perishables. Drinks etc. The hostel is clean and tidy ,Bring your own towel, tooth brush, and soap coz it's Hostel, not a hotel.....and for a short stay in Melbourne I recommend Elizabeth Hostel.

    “Good”

The location is good. The property overall is okay, and bathrooms are clean. The issue is most people staying at this property are not good (may be due to the fact that it is cheaper accommodation in Melbourne Central) . Today one of the women staying at the property attacked me outside the hostel gate. I didn't report it to police as I am a tourist and want to stay away from all this. certainly she has some mental health issues but it is very threatening. Staff behaviour too is very polite in compare with other hostels. That's all on my review. You have to chose what you are looking for.
