The cheapest is best . Highly recommend ”
You have a choice of rooms but the cheap bungalows are the cutest with lots of living space. Look beyond the coat of paint needed. Instead look at the effort they put into keeping the beach clean from all the crap that is swept in with the tide. They brush constantly to keep the sands clean but it is an impossible task. The pool is constantly cleaned due to sand blowing in. Covid here has taken its toll and they are trying to get it back to standard. The father and daughter team are always helpful and friendly, good English making communication easy. I got the booking dates wrong turned up early. They did not mind showed us to our lovely beach hut . Super clean apart from coat of paint needed. The comfiest bed we have slept in and we been travelling since October. Pity no kitchen as agoda had said breakfast included. Short walk up the beach lovely eatery cheaper budget longer walk. The family will do anything to make your stay pleasant .

Quiet place, clean hotel.”
Quiet hotel, in front of the beach. It also has a swiming pool. Wooden cabins and concrete bungalow-type rooms. Our wooden cabin was very comfortable with a private bathroom, clean, comfortable bed, fan, view of the sea. The included breakfast was very good, with everything you need to start the day. A quiet place to rest and enjoy, the administrators are very kind people.

Loved my stay”
I stayed in one of the tall bungalows on wooden pillar’s right on the beach,I loved it..close to the ferry pier and was nice and quiet,my bungalow was clean with comfortable bed ,downstairs was toilet and cold water shower, there was a balcony and hammock under bungalow …All the staff nice and friendly..They kept their bit of beach nice and clean..they had a small shop on site, but their restaurant was shut, wasn’t a problem for me as I just walked along the beach and found other places to eat….good value for money, would definitely stay again

Constantly issues”
I stayed at Homestay for 6 nights and constantly ran into issues. Firstly, the pool is filled with mold and brown. Secondly, there is sometimes no hot water. Thirdly, the electricity randomly turned off at least twice a day, so we had to call the staff each time to fix it. Our water pressure was non-existent one of the days, and our sink was clogged half the time. The staff always fixed it, but he wasn’t very happy to do it and seemed irritated each time. The mother of the place was very sweet and gave us free bananas, invited us to her son-in-law’s bday dinner, and was very welcoming (We loved her!) Overall, the place was clean, well-kept, and had a good location by the pier and close to restaurants, but we ran into so many technical issues that interrupted our holiday several times a day :( Luckily, after our complaints, we were granted one night free, which made up for a lot of issues!

Dissatisfy ”
The hotel did not see the confirmation after the credit card details has been submitted. Upon arrival the staff looked misguided and confused and hurriedly tried to arrange an accommodation in a fully booked hotel. They would try to reach out the manager who in it's turn tried to keep on knocking on guest’s doors to find out if they're leaving within today. The whole situation seemed to spin out of control and look horribly hopeless. Fortunately we had friend running a place down the beach who had a few spare rooms to offer. When we approached the staff at homestay and asked to cancel the booking they seemed relieved. In the end I'd suggest home stay resort management to put customer first and offer a better service for the price paid.

Paradise”
We called up front and were picked up from the ferry. We took the speed ferry but the owner told us the slow ferry comes at the jetty more near the resort. We stayed at the treehouse which was simply amazing, we enjoyed it a lot. The staff is friendly and the owner is a great guy. The resort has a restaurant with a lot of nice food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Around the bay you can walk around, hire a kayak, swim in the very clear water or even go for snorkeling. If in the future I visit Koh Rong Samloem again I will definitely stay here.

A great place to immerse in Khmer hospitality”
We had a great time at Home Stay Resort! Ha and his family welcomed us, like we were long lost relatives. We stayed in the treehouse. It was awesome! It isn't for some, because you need to climb a ladder to get in, but it has a toilet and shower, and it is on the beach. What more could you want? I read a review, where someone complained about some ants and a gecko in the treehouse. It is a treehouse not the Hyatt! The person also complained, about noise. Ummm, it is a treehouse on the beach. It provides shade. People are going to hang out underneath it. Also, the whole island shuts down by about ten o'clock pm, except for Cambodian holidays, when you should expect things to carry on a bit later. Enjoy the cultural experience. We had a blast!

Not somewhere I would recommend...”
Not a good experience... I sent them an email 1-2 weeks before arrival & asked how can I get there from the pier, then no one replied. I arrived the isl& at around 6pm, i found there's some people holding a board with hotel name but didn't see Home Stay Resort... finally, i asked someone to help me to call the resort, then they said the boat drive back to home town & no one is gonna pick me up... i was carrying 20kg backpack while the resort located at the end of the beach... which u have to spend more than 20 mins from the main piers.. they asked me why i didn't contact them earlier so they can try to arrange pick up, & then i shown them the email that i sent & they were like speechless.. the room, a very simple one, can't say it's bad coz they are 2 stars, but when you saw the bungalows & restaurants of all other resorts in the island... I'm sure that Home stay resort is the worst. a lot of insects in the room & the restaurant, i stayed in other restaurants, the problem is not that serious... i got at least 5 cicadas hit me hardly when i was having dinner in the restaurant... but wasn't happen when i was in the other restaurants.... think that's the location problem & they don't have that electric machine to kill the insects while others are well-equipped & nice decoration too. room - got bite by the mosquitoes for whole night... electric only provide from 6-11pm, so you only got 5 hours to charge your devices & after 11pm, the dark just not allow you to see your own arms. perhaps other resorts in the island the same i'm not sure, but at least they should notice me but not until i back to my room & find out there's no electric & i wasn't showered. I tried to find someone but that's not possible coz the restaurant closed... finally i just showered in the dark. i will not recommend this resort to other even other resorts maybe cost more, but it will be worth...

Still a lovely place”
Don't expect AC or electricity 24/24, don't expect ice (for coffee) before the first morning delivery, don't expect milk shakes at lunch (no electricity). Don't expect wifi nor mobile network... Expect everything else : a cheap and comfortable bungalow straight on the white sand and crystal clear water beach. Warm and friendly staff eager to teach you a bit of Khmer words, home made food with daily fresh food deliveries. We love this place run by a local family and we wouldn't go to another twice-the-price overpopulated marketing-designed place.

Trash island”
Waited 2 hours at the pier before someone from home stay resort showed up! No boat to pick us up, so we had to walk with our huge bags for 45 mn under the sun and with high tide ( we had water up to our waist at some places). The beach was completly trashed. Garbage EVERYWHERE. Once there We checked into our bungalow and went to eat. After we came back, we encounter 2 big rats in the room so we ask to change to another bungalow. Power run in the room from 6 pm to 11 pm... After that, no more fan! It was incredibly hot in the room and we did sleep 2 hours at most! The highlight of this 2 days was the other side of the island where robinson resort is located...the beach was clean, relaxing and with very few people. The walk to go there is pretty rough. Be ready to walk 35 minutes on the beach and an additional 35 minutes thru the jungle. Equiped some good shoes as well (no flip flop) as the way in the jungle is going up and down with uneven rocks and roots along the way! Go to eat to the restaurant next to bar 42 ( on robinson side of the island), the food was delicious and my grilled eggplant and chicken dish was one of the best I had in cambodia.

review!”
a very warm 20 minute walk from where the speed ferry drops you (it's on the opposite side of the bay) which seemed long at the time, but compared to the walk to the places on sunset beach, it is easy! no wifi, but the place next door has it, no laundry service, electricity only between 6pm and 10pm but this shouldn't matter. dorm is very basic but comfortable and it is probably the cheapest place on the island aside from mpai bay. why not!

Just bad”
The resort lies in the very far end the the saracen bay. We have to go by taxi boat to get here from the main pier without any support from the resort. We ask for the return trip to be arranged but they did absolutely nothing, we have to do all by ourselves. The rooms are poorly built with cheap material. The beds are smelly and there are very limited electricity. One bright spark among those bad points is the restaurant is fantastic. The food is a little more expensive than the main lane but it is one of the best. I'd recommend to stay somewhere near and just come here for the food.

Great location 2 min walk from ferry pier. Bungalows clean, spacious with good shower. Nice balcony to chill facing beach. Very pleasant stay.

Most typical”
The staff is welcoming and ready to help. The rooms are of good quality for the rate (yet the mosquito net is too small). Don't expect power 24/7 (only 6pm to 11pm) or wifi here, but a cambodian run business. Let you know that if you book the boar through the hotel, you will get a slow boat (2h one way)... Bit you'll arrive on the good pier (1min walk)

Bungalow fine, the rest not worth the money”
We stayed at Home Stay one night which unfortunately last few hours as we were woken up by workers just under our place. We went then for breakfast and got my oder totally wrong and the owner kept on saying the dish warms right although we showed him the dish on the menu. The service needs improvement and also the surroundings of the bungalows as they literally are surrounded by trash and unfinished pieces of wood etc. I might recommend this place only if the price was less than what we paid.

Not as expected ”
This place is the place on the island where everyone goes "at least I'm not staying there!" The mattress is made of foam and not king size. There are gaps between the floorboards and insects etc can come up through them. I have developed a rash on my upper body where I was cuddling with the blanket they provided. I think they are mite bites. They did change my blanket when I asked though. They didn't clean my bungalow once during my stay of 5 nights. There is NOT 24 hour electricity as they advertise on their website. I expected to be roughing it on the island but i didn't expect it to be this rough... The young man who works at the reception obviously knows the resort is not up to par. When we arrived he couldn't stop apologizing enough for the place being so simple. He is also the cook in the kitchen. He is obviously overworked, tired and embarrassed of the situation he finds himself in. I was in communication with someone at the resort organizing boat transfers. Once I arrived in Cambodia the communication stopped though. Ended up booking the fast ferry from Sihanoukville to the island. We got dropped off on the wrong side of the beach and had to walk about 45 minutes (at least) to our resort with our luggage. Other resorts on that side of the beach sent boats, buggies and staff to come pick the luggage up at least. Not Homestay though... Their reason "pour boat is broken."" We ended up paying the resort next door $5 to take us back to the pier

DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT!!!! We were ASSAULTED ”
Resorts in the island send boats to collect guests in the pier, but they don't. No roads so you have 2 carry bags by the sand along the entire bay.2pm our room wasn't ready n asked if WE WANTED to have the room clean? Previous guest warned of the poor conditions and how unsafe+unstable the treehouse is w/ wind. On entering I slipped on the ladder as it broke away from the rust nail, hurting my foot. Ad is a LIE! No walls, no door and bathroom is piece of plastic attached w/ rusty nails out a plank of wood. "Room" is exposed to elements+ to anyone. They place chairs under so forget having a rest or privacy. Full of lizards+bugs, no sink but listed as ensuite, blind is broken, bed (listed as double) is a cheap piece of foam on the floor, full of wholes. No soap and only half a toilet roll. I complained n they said no refund+became annoyed. After trying to contact Agoda(no Wi-fi in the island)we decided to stay somewhere else.Owner saw us leaving w/ bags and wanted the key. He said 'If you aren't staying here you leave the key'. But did but said if he won't give refund we have the right 2 keep it for 2 nights but he got angry, declined n said we could get it with him if we came back.Next morning returned to get photos 4 evidence and they gave the key. As interior is exposed, he saw us taking photos and got angry+aggressive. He+four men surrounded screaming+demanding we came down. I refused n said that we had paid to stay so we had the right to be there as he declined refund. Owner was drunk n climbed the treehouse screaming that we had to get out and grabbed my arm dragging me to the exit of the treehouse after he took the key. I scream so he realised what he did n left but continued cursing from ground level+making homophobic remarks. Sent clear evidence: photos, audio recording and video of the incident but Agoda appeared to side w/resort and continued to question our side as he denied evrthng. We couldn’t get the police to come as they charge to come. DONT STAY HERE
