For a great central location close to the market and Xuan Huong Lake, this hotel is an excellent choice. The friendly and accommodating staff provide exceptional service. The rooms are clean, comfortable and feature useful amenities such as USB outlets. Breakfast is tasty and varied with Vietnamese, Western, and Asian options served in a cozy dining area. The attentive housekeeping service is happy to provide extra toiletries upon request.

I booked 4 rooms (3 deluxe family, 1 deluxe double) on Agoda, and upon arrival, I booked an additional deluxe family room, making a total of 5 rooms. However, 2 of the deluxe family rooms had weak air conditioning. I only requested to change 1 room because the person in that room needed the air conditioning to function properly. The hotel sent a male staff member to check, and he said, "Turning it down like that won't make it cold" (at that moment, I had it set to 16 degrees with level 5 airflow). I thought maybe I set it wrong, so I went closer to check and saw that he set it to 30 degrees. I said, "How can it be cold at 30 degrees?" He replied, "30 degrees is cold; 16 degrees won't be cold." My mother then said, "What are you talking about? How can 16 not be cold but 30 be?" He insisted, "Yes, 30 is cold." My mother then said, "You surely don't know how to use the air conditioning; there's no way 30 degrees is colder than 16." He responded to my mother with a very rude attitude, "I don’t know how to use it; who knows how to use it?" At this point, I was very dissatisfied; a 4-star hotel should not have such poor service, with weak air conditioning and 2-3 small cockroaches in the bathroom (I pointed this out to the staff member as well). What's more important is that the staff argued with the customer (and were wrong about it). I didn’t give 1 star because other staff members were okay and enthusiastic. I didn’t want to continue talking to him, so I called the front desk to request an immediate room change and explained the 30-degree situation to them. The front desk said they would check the condition of the room, and a little later, they called back to apologize and said that the staff member was MISTAKEN. I affirmed that he was not mistaken because he repeated several times that 30 degrees was cold and added, "I don’t know how to use it; who knows how to use it." But in the end, the hotel did change my room to a bigger one than the one I booked because the deluxe family rooms were full. If you ask me if I would return, the answer is NO, because with a price of nearly 2 million per night and service like this, no thanks. (I stayed from September 27 to September 29).

We were the only non-Asians staying at this (almost full) 94 room hotel, but this is not by any means a bad thing, after all we are in Asia! However, some negative ramifications for the non-Asian traveler are outlined in the comments below. IMO, the hotel is deserving of two different Star ratings. One rating to apply to the service, the room quality and comfort and one to apply to the facilities available. The first is a 5 and the second a 2. For 5 Stars, the rooms are spacious, well designed and very clean, with exceptional fixtures and fittings and a comfortable bed (we stayed in the Junior Suite, but peeking into other rooms during our stay seemed to reflect the same high standards). Though not really needed in Da Lat, the A/C is excellent. The walls do allow sounds from other rooms to be heard (e.g. toilets flushing, showers running) but not significantly annoying enough to detract from our overall room rating. At three years old, the hotel still seems as as if it opened last week! The staff at the front desk were very friendly, and tried to be helpful at every meeting. I say "tried" because their English was basic and Google Translate had to come to the rescue on a few occasions. Special mention to "Dan" for his efforts to help us. For another reason as to why their helpfulness was hampered, see below. So 5 Stars. Moving on to the 2 Stars awarded for facilities etc. If you read the full hotel blurb on the Agoda website, you would be seriously misled on a number of points, so much so that the gushing description might well have been written for another hotel! For instance, there is no "well equipped fitness facility". There is no "doctor on call". ( When I needed one I was told to go to the hospital, which is another story in itself!). Wi-fi in the room was non-existent most of the time and when it it did connect you had to be quick before it dropped out again. Seriouly frustrating. The in-house food is of a very basic nature. The hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast which, apart from the ubiquitous egg station and toast maker, is very limited in its choices and caters totally to Asian tastes (oh for a cup tea and a bit of bacon or sausage!). We certainly wouldn't take "breakfast included" as an incentive to book any particular room rate at this hotel. So, when we have to give the Marigold an overall rating, we would give it 3 stars. As a westerner, do not expect some of the most basic things found in most major hotels in most cities (eg no city maps kept at the front desk to help you get around). As a final note, the FO will take your passport upon arrival and keep it for the duration of your stay. This has not happened at any of the hotels we have stayed at in on our previous three visits to Vietnam.

“4-star hotel but the quality doesn't match.”
I booked 4 rooms (3 deluxe family, 1 deluxe double) on Agoda, and when I arrived, I added another deluxe family room, making a total of 5 rooms. Yet, 2 of the deluxe family rooms had air conditioning that wasn't cold. I only requested to change 1 room because the person in that room needed to sleep with air conditioning. Then the hotel sent a male staff member to check, and he said, "How can it be cold when you set it so low?" (at that time I had it set to 16 degrees with a fan speed of 5), "You need to turn it up." I thought I must have set it wrong, so I went closer to see, and I noticed he turned it up to 30 degrees. I said, "How can it be cold at 30 degrees?" He replied, "30 degrees is cold; 16 degrees is not cold." My mother said, "What are you talking about? How can 16 not be cold, but 30 is?" He insisted, "Yes, 30 is cold." My mother then said, "You must not know how to use the air conditioner; there's no way that 30 degrees is colder than 16." At this point, I was very unhappy. How can a 4-star hotel have such poor service? The air conditioning was weak, and there were 2-3 little cockroaches in the bathroom (we requested to change rooms for that one too; I showed that staff member). The important thing was that the staff argued with the guests (and wrongly at that). I didn't give a one-star rating because the other staff were still okay and enthusiastic. I didn't want to continue dealing with him, so I called the front desk and requested an immediate room change. I also explained the 30-degree situation to the front desk. They said they would check the room status, and later the front desk called back to apologize and said that the staff member had made a MISTAKE. I confirmed he didn’t make a mistake because he said 3-4 times that 30 degrees was cold and also added, "I don’t know how to use it; who knows how to use it?" But in the end, the hotel did change my room to a bigger room than the one I booked because the deluxe family rooms were full. If you ask me if I would come back, the answer is NO because with a price of nearly 2 million VND per night for service like this, no thank you (I stayed from September 27 to September 29).
