“A Bucket-List Honeymoon”
My wife and I just had the loveliest honeymoon at Sun Siyam Olhuveli, staying 6D5N in their Grand Water Villa on a half-board meal plan in mid-Apr 2025. When we first started searching for a place to stay, we were a little overwhelmed by the choice of resorts in Maldives, but can honestly say we're so glad we found this spot. The Sun Siyam staff were very responsive to our initial email enquiries about a honeymoon. If you stay at least 3 nights in a Grand Villa within 12 months of your marriage, you can enjoy a complementary dinner and small cake at one of their restaurants, some fruit and bottle of wine on arrival, and some in-room bed decoration. We also ended up purchasing their Ultimate Honeymoon Package ($317.72 USD after service charge and tax) which includes another romantic dinner, a floating breakfast, 45min couples full body massage, 45min guided snorkelling at their house reef, 10min jetski rental, 15min photoshoot by the in-house photographer (you receive 5 free digital photos, additional images are USD $10), and another in-room decoration (which was so creatively done with fresh leaves). We think it was a fantastic deal for the experience we got - just enough to have a taste of what was offer, without being too busy! One of the other deciding factors for us was also how convenient it was to get to the resort. Airport transfer is via a 45min speedboat transport from Velana Airport, and while it seemed a bit pricey (USD $250/pax for return trip, nett), we liked that the boat schedule was much more frequent and less-weather dependant than seaplanes for resorts farther away. We met a resort representative with a sign at the Arrrival Hall, had our luggage tagged at Counter B7/8, and went straight to the boat transfer outside within our first few minutes of arrival (though you may need to wait for a full boat, depending on arrival time). Their boats for new arrivals apparently run late into the night, while the last departing boat from the resort is at 6pm. If we had to nitpick, it would be nice to have some later departing boats for late-night flights. The resort is a large one, but never felt crowded at all. As other reviewers have said, it actually comprises 3 private islands connected by bridges (Olhuveli Island, Dream Island and TUI Blue for Adults Only) with a calm semi-lagoon formed in the middle, which was one of our fav places to be. The place is so much like the pictures, and the water so clear and blue it was surreal! We also liked that the resort seemed committed to more sustainable practices: e.g. filtered water is provided in refillable glass bottles (2 bottles provided per day in-room), only electric vehicles are used on the islands, cloth napkins (instead of paper towels) are used to dry your hands in the public toilets, and freeflow water (infused with mint, fresh citrus etc) is available at the various pool lounges. Waiting for the electric buggy shuttle to get around the islands can seem a hassle for some at first, but you easily get used to it - and isn't island life supposed to be slow and relaxed anyway? The marine life was incredible, despite some bleached coral in the lagoons, and we saw lots of large fish (incl brilliant blue parrotfish), blacktip reef sharks, a large stingray and a fever (love this word!) of eagle rays just off our back deck. Their house reef at the Dive Centre seemed in good shape, and our wonderful snorkelling guide Etoo even managed to help us spot one of their resident sea turtles! But by far the most memorable experience for us was definitely watching the graceful manta rays that came to feed off the plankton at the Dive Centre jetty most nights (about 8.30pm onwards)! We stayed at water villa 505 on Dream Island, which we thought was just the perfect location and worth every cent. It had a beautiful view of the open ocean, framed by the water villas, with the waves breaking some a distance away, which made it so quiet at night. You only needed a short walk on the woo
