Hoa Binh Province hotels & places to stay

Very pleasant. It is set in a beautiful location - fabulous views and great places to ride/walk to. The transfer to Mai Chau and back to Hanoi was strenuous and longer than we had expected. The room was great although little thnigs let it down - broken ceiling fan cord so couldn't change speed; bar fridge that turned on noisily in the middle of the night; verandah view of an electricity pole. The restaurant staff were wonderful - trying to learn English and to provide friendly and efficient service. But the place is receiving wrong advice to cater to a western audience, in that it is trying to be western - silver service in the restuarnt, western food etc. We wanted to experience best quality, local, Vietnamese food which was very limited on the menu, given the huge variety and deliciousness of local food we had elsewhere. But, it is new and the locals are learning - it is such a good place we hope it succeeds at being 5 star, but being local. We would return on a special deal - but I don't think people would pay the expected, full price with what is on offer.

I arrived at Mai Chau Lodge with modest expectations, so I was overjoyed by the hotel's beautiful lobby, and my room with view of mountains and shimmering lake. Every morning delicious breakfast was served in a gorgeous dining room, and I took a bike ride by the green rice fields of the valley, and swam in the hotel's refreshing pool. Best of all, the hotel staff members deserve 5 stars for their outstanding and gracious service. Tours of the nearby peaceful villages, arranged by hotel staff, were unforgettable. I cannot say enough about my wonderful stay was at Mai Chau Lodge.

Thank Mr.Hung for my wonderful experience in Mai Chau. I am so glad that I took his advice and booked the pick up service from Hanoi since the hotel is quite a distance away from the town center, locating in a small village and surrounded by mountains and rice-paddy field. That's why the hotel is perfect for relaxation and ideal to explore the untouched culture. I love riding a bike to explore the village in the morning and coming back in the afternoon to relax in the swimming pool. The hotel also offer a wide range of tours to nearby attractions but unfortunately I couldn't do all of them due to limited time. Staff was very helpful and spoke good English. I wish I could spend more time at Mai Chau Villas.

I had a perfect time at Sol Bungalows. Highly recommended this place to those who want a relaxed vacation in Mai Chau. I had the best view from my room (Room 7). Relaxed atmosphere, really helpful staff, clean room. If there is anything i could change to improve the place then it would be the food (which tastes very average to me) and the mattress (could be due to personal preference since i like slightly softer mattress). I still give good credit to the restaurant since the chef went the extra mile to prepare food (not in the menu) for me. All in all, it's a great experience.

This place was just great and Lim was just as great, and speak sufficient English. Nice room, well maintained and the best bathroom I have seen in Southeast Asia for this class of accommodation. Style-wise, the place is on the rustic side, but everything is tastefully done and super clean. She definitely puts a lot of attention to detail which makes this place charming. Lim offered breakfast and dinner for a very affordable price (I think 3$ US for dinner). Dinner included 4 Vietnamese dishes + rice and the portions generous enough that I could barely finish everything she cooked that night; I biked 70 km uphill that day, I was hungry! Everything was authentic and quite yummy! Location is a bit remote from the main town, but she has a few bikes you can borrow if you don't already have transportation. It's only a few minutes to get to town and the promenade is great. Two complain 1. Like anywhere else, the beds are hard 2. Now everywhere else I stay won’t feel as nice

This is a classic Vietnamese regional hotel where communication and some of the facilities go into meltdown when customers arrive. There were few staff for a large hotel. It appeared that only a few of the rooms were being used, so it felt like a ghost hotel. We were told that it is a private business, not a govt hotel. The man at the desk had no record of our booking and it was difficult to convince him that we had booked and paid. I had to coach him through each and every booking (6 rooms). One couple had to try 3 rooms before they found one with power and hot water (not very hot water). All in all, quite a sham olio experience. If we hadn't had an experienced Vietnamese guide, things would have been much worse. Good; the size of the rooms and the price Average; the location Bad; the staff, the lack of guests I probably wouldn't stay there again, but I'm not sure that anywhere else is better.

This family owned bungalow hotel is just what I was looking for. Peaceful, very friendly staff (ask for So'n), beautiful view, impressive swimming pool, hotel is new (only 6 months open), rooms are perfect, food was great (order 2h in advance), ... what did I forget ? Oh yeah, our little 5 y old received a local craft work as present. Many many thanks. Mai Chau is rapidly growing and I'm glad that the community and its visitors are taking advantage of this. However, I do hope that it will stay a quite countryside place respecting environment and local culture. Good luck to you, keep working hard to meet high standards and don't mind the critics from the 'toast' tourist (just before)... <3<3<3

The hotel is beautifully situated just outside Hoa binh, if you have a 'riverside view' you will be overlooking the paddy fields and mountains which are very beautiful. If you travel alone and not with an organised group you are left to find your own way thru, which isn't too difficult but a welcome information sheet would be very helpful. The food was always good and hearty, you sat together with other travellers so you could enjoy the community feel. The rooms / huts were very basic. Open on all sides under the roof, you are very glad to be tucked up at night under the mosquito net. For me the condition of the huts let the place down, the bathroom was almost unusable, all hooks were off the wall, the shower lever came off in my hand, it was very uninviting. More suited for back packers IMO. For that reason we left a night early.

I hadn't stayed here before, but was impressed by the reviews. It exceeded my expectations. By a long way. Our stay was exceptional. My friends and I arrived on a freezing cold day, wet through after cycling from Hoa Binh. Immediately the owner and staff appeared with hot towels and heaters. They had also warmed our rooms and turned on the hot water two hours before we arrived. My friends said that when they went to their rooms and saw the view and the facilities that they almost cried. We ate a variety of food in the restaurant and it was all very good. It is worth noting that I have previously stayed in 3 other hotels in MaiChau (2 of them much more expensive). None were as good. Superb. Thanks to the owner and the staff for making our stay so comfortable.

This place is just set in the middle of some rice fields - surrounded by mountains and filled with warm and welcoming people. The view from our balcony was simply beautiful - the food was delicious. For 100.000 you get to eat their fresh cooked food together with other guests. Mai Chau at the weekend fills up with Vietnamese tourists which makes it a good place for socializing and getting in contact with locals. Thank you and see you again! :)

We were offered the delux double room upon arrival and it was amazing. Beautiful views of misty mountain tops and rice paddies in the breeze. Has a porch and your own bathroom too. Also the food they offer is great. They cook you local food but they also know things like westerners don’t like eating bones in their fish ;) a bit of a rarity in this beautiful country. Everything was perfect really but unfortunately, when you book one bed, it’s only for one person while Agoda states one bed is “max 2 guests”. We didn’t make much of a fuss because it’s still great value but it was a bit of a downer to end up paying double the price you thought you would. Also it’s nowhere near mai chau town which is why I liked it, for the seclusion.

Booked online and not sure the family knew we were coming, but they accommodated us perfectly when we arrived. Beautiful location and house! The second night they made a delicious dinner for us which was reasonably priced; it seems they may have done this the first night if we had gotten in before they went to the market in the afternoon. While the family's English was limited, we were able to communicate and they got us a local guide for a day hike and were generally quite friendly, though due to the limited English we couldn't get other local information from them. It would have been nice if we had been able to cook with them- as we saw at other homestays- but it seems that may be something you have to be proactive about. In short- very nice experience!
