Oudomxai hotels & places to stay

We are group of 4 female from Malaysia (Muslim). We travel using public transport to Oudomxay and the Resort pick us up at Southern Bus Terminal. 45mins ride through town and village road, you reach Namkat Yorla Pa in the middle of the jungle. Our first impression, woods, bamboos, nature view and scenery, very relaxing and beautiful. Once we checked-in, the rooms was outstanding. You get free view of the river flowing smooth right in front of you. They did their landscaping job perfectly. Blending nature and eco-tourism into their hospitality. You get to choose more than 10 packages of different activities (outdoor and adventure, leisure and strolling and getting more attach to mother nature). What we really appreciate is, General Manager itself (Mr.Nick) attentively cater our needs - simple Halal breakfast consist of home-made pastries and bread, local-made jams and with Halal Chicken Sausages (enough for us). Thank you so much Namkat. Simply beautiful and a treasure for Oudomxay.

Since we decided to spend a bit more kip and take the Shompoo cruise from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai, we decided to spend the bit extra for the Sanctuary Pakbeng Lodge. It was well worth it. I made my booking with Agoda.com, asked about the transfer from boat to the hotel. I had an email back within an hour. The manager said someone would be waiting at the dock for us. Yes, we arrived, a nice gentleman with a tuk-tuk was waiting for us with a sign with our names on it. It took about 10 minutes to the hotel, as soon as we walked into the lobby, we were so happy we had decided to book this hotel. The view was beyond words. The staff was very welcoming with a cold drink. Took us up to our room, wished we had booked more than one night. We decided on dinner at the hotel, why go elsewhere when you had everything you needed. Dinner was a set menu, fare price of $12.00usd. Some would say a bit expensive, but, look where you are! Yes, I would stay again and recommend to my friends. The cruise was amazing, the hotel topped it off.

everything is overpriced in pak beng. but BKC villa is worth it if you don't want to deal with the craziness of choosing a guesthouse when you get off of the slow boat. i was so glad to have booked this place before arriving - there was pickup at the boat (and dropoff in the morning) and the hotel had a nice restaurant which was perfect for an easy dinner that night. breakfast the next morning was awesome, and I was able to buy a nice sandwich for the boat ride for not much money. so if you want it to be easy when you arrive on the slow boat, book this place.

Traveling with family in Oudomxay province, we chose this hotel for our 4-night stay in Pakbeng, so we could relax and enjoy quiet time altogether. The location is amazing, benefiting from an exceptional viewpoint. The pool is a delight, the room is great (missing some seating furniture inside or on balcony) and the staffs are wonderful (smiling, caring). However, standards are not meeting expectations for this price range... Gym, sauna and spa are advertised on Agoda page, but there was nothing there!! We paid $15/pax for breakfast, which is completely overpriced considering the food offered: egg/bacon, croissant/bread, coffee/tea.. and that is pretty much it. We had many more varieties for cheaper in other hotels in Laos. Without mentioning $4 for a tiny glass of orange juice from a bottle that cost $2... Unfortunately, it feels like management is absent or overwhelmed. Overall, disappointed but thankful to the staffs who really did their best and made this stay remain a good one.

After the long cold day riding a boat from Thai border, Mekhong Riverside Lodge is giving you something to look forward to. The room is very nice with spacious balcony where you can just sit and relax while enjoy the river view.. It is just 2-minute walk from the pier. Its restaurant serves the best indian food ever (it also has Thai and Lao food) I am not so crazy about the breakfast but I would highly recommend this place. The staffs are very nice. And after 7-hour boat trip, this is exactly what you need.

Great location 5 mins from dock, clean, really comfy bed best so far in Asia, air con, fan, TV, free water, hot shower. Owner didn't cracking a smile though but never mind it as only one night to sleep. Saibadee restaurant opposite served great laos food. A little overpriced but booked online for the convenience and no hassle on arrival. A lot better hotel than others experienced along the road.

We recently stayed at Charming Lao Hotel. The hotel is comfortable and an excellent value for money. Our room had everything that we needed. The thing that made our stay though was the amazing service and helpfulness of the hotel's general manager. He was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the city. Even prior to our arrival, he went out of his way to assist when the local tour office was not responsive to us. And after returning from a hiking excursion, he arranged for us to be able to clean up before moving on to our next destination, even though we had already checked out of the hotel the day before. Our food was quite good and we had excellent spa treatments that were an amazing value. I can't say enough good things about how we well were taken care of, and there is no doubt in my mind that this is the best place to stay in Oudomxay.

We organised the slow boat trip from Chiang Mai but needed to organise accomodation ourselves for the stopover in Pakbeng. As we were travelling with kids I decided to do this in advance. However, it was unecessary to do so as there is plenty of accomodation at Pakbeng for a much cheaper rate and generally the stay in Pakbeng is only overnight, and so other options are more than adequate and much better value. However, the hotel was a nice bit of comfort in the middle of the slow boat trip - just a pity the breakfast was not so great.

If you stay here, be careful you don't end up paying in cash and also being charged to your credit card, as the owner then only offers a cash refund (and does not offer return flights in order to go back to Oudomxay to collect it). The hotel has nice common areas but the rooms are so-so. I had glass on only one side of the window, the other side only fly screen, and the bed had itchy critters in it. The shower pressure was okay at night but not in the morning and the shower head gave a small amount of spray in all different directions so don't even bother trying to wash your hair. There was no breakfast, and no sign to say breakfast would not be available. The boss was away and the staff did not speak English and had not been trained in handling Agoda bookings. There doesn't seem to be a lot of options around though

Pak Beng is a one night stop over for those on the slow boat. The town caters accordingly. It’s a neat little place, better than Huay Xai if that was your starting point. The hotel was a bit overpriced for what it was ,but I presume they all are. We were picked up at the pier to our surprise (on the back of a truck) which was a nice touch. It,s a short walk down the hill in the morning, passing several places that will make you breakfast & sandwiches with speed,ready for the last leg of the trip. Would I stay there again or recommend it to a friend ,ye sure.

It's one of the best cheap places to stay when you get off the boat. About 1 minute up the hill. It has a shop next door for your food the next day. Rooms were fine for a one stop as thats all it is. Cheap place but it you wait till the day you arrive you will most likely get it cheaper as there is about a million locals who are trying to sell you a room for the night 50,000kip for the night was the going rate we paid 60,000 on agoda but did get air con.

Yes we pre-booked, yes we took the Slow Boat, and no we couldn't have been happier. We were met at the boat landing (last boat of the day) and given a ride to Phonemany, which is a walk uphill. Nice people, no hassle, and lovely room. We were in a private room, over the restaurant/bar, off the second floor balcony overlooking the Main Street in Pakbeng. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? Instead, it was one of the more decent night's sleep we've had in all of SE Asia. It was quiet, the bathroom functional with hot water shower, and nice sheets and towels. The restaurant was handy and made delicious reasonably priced food for dinner, breakfast, and some to take on the boat too! They gave us a tuktuk ride back to the boat in the morning, and made sure we got there in time to select a good seat. Nice people, friendly and helpful. A delightful surprise after reading the other reviews.

We had a rather frustrating time on the day we checked in. The female staff at the reception, who didn’t still a single word of English, had no clue at all what to do with our prepaid booking. Two other staff who came to her rescue were equally clueless. So, it seemed the staff were totally unfamiliar with the concept of online booking. More than 20 minutes later and having to deal with three front desk staff who didn’t speak English and talked to a 4th person over the phone who spoke just enough English, we managed to check-in after striking a compromise to give them a photocopy of our passports only (they wanted our original passports for safekeeping which we refused). However, until we checked-out, we felt uncertain if they would honour our pre-paid booking and still made us pay in cash!

we left the place after one night, we paid 2 night with agoda and we change place second night, this is bad experience, our stay was so bad, no matress in bed, dusty place, staff no speak english and wanted payment by us immediatly, we lose 2 hour with translater to explaine the process with agoda, for me its finish, I never use agoda for payment and booking, I thing the responsability is from agoda, they have to control their booking, the manager was from china, not in laos, only staff incompetent. we lost money because I had to book other place for second night;
