Arriving at the hotel in the evening, check-in was very swift and I was thus immediately whisked to my room. Very friendly hotel staff. My room was functional in every respect, the WiFi worked very well throughout my stay. The pool was great, and I had it all to myself on both occasions I went for a swim. The only real let down was breakfast. For a hotel of this caliber, it could do a lot to improve it's game. They had boring white toast with cheap jam and margarine rather than baguettes with butter and either local or imported jam made from organic fruit, and a larger variety of options and proper tea and coffee (not the instant stuff) would have made a big difference. The chicken curry on the first morning was good, but I found myself having a second breakfast outside. Location is very quiet, especially at night - but best suited to those with their own transport as it's about 1km to the nearest shops and restaurants. However, tuk-tuks are usually available or you can charter one.

If you want a very clean, comfy room that is an easy 15-minute walk to the Thai Embassy, then the Avalon (also known as the 'Aura') is your best choice! Very high ceilings in my 5th floor room (named 'Quince') with a balcony and city view and plenty of natural light. Clean and comfortable king-sized bed, too. Friendly, English-speaking reception that will make you feel at home. Two excellent eating places, one in the hotel and one a 20-meter walk from the front door, offer good and inexpensive fare in a town where good eating places are few and far between. If you need a market, the Sabaidee Market is a 5-minute walk. A bank and Western Union is kitty-cornered from the Avalon, as well. I would have given the Avalon 5 stars for facilities, but there was no kettle in the room ... reception cheerfully gave me a mug of hot water though, so no worries. Highly-recommend the Avalon as this was my second visit and quality was just as high as my first stay.

Stylish hotel with beautiful rooms that are an excellent value for the money. Great location, just minutes from the Thai Consulate, market, and a great bar called "Home Beer" (which is within walking distance from the hotel). Delicious western and Asian (Lao/Thai) food in the cafe. Great coffee and smoothies too. All VERY affordably priced. The ONLY issue I had during my stay was that the air conditioner in my room wasn't strong enough to keep the room cool. It looked like a new unit. It probably just needed a thorough cleaning. I did NOT inform the hotel staff about the issue because I didn't spend much time in my room. But the staff were all VERY nice and even let me check in HOURS earlier than my reservation. I'm sure if I had mentioned the air conditioning problem to them, they would have done their best to rectify the situation. I go to Savannakhet every few months and I've tried other hotels (including the one next to Aura). But Aura is BY FAR my favorite. Will go back again soon

The area has a couple gazebos to relax and read or snack, quiet area, AC worked in my room but not the best, huge bed, Thai channels, shower pressure was great and has hot water. Nice room in all. Close to Thai Consulate.. and now there is a huge market - near bus station - within walking which also has several Thai restaurants with a blend of Western and a convenient store (beside a chicken restaurant on the main road near bus station - has great chick burritos) . Everything for a general stay is in walking distance.

This place provides the type of atmosphere that is deeply needed in the 2nd largest city in Laos. The cafe/restaurant is very chic and has a peaceful atmosphere, and you gotta love the A/C! There were plenty of books to read, which was great. There was a water cooler you can use to refill your water bottle. The food was hit or miss; the hummus was tiny and the crispy bread was so saturated with oil that it gave us a headache. However, the breakfast bowl was pretty delicious, though we had to ask for more granola to match what was shown in the menu photo, since initially we only received a light sprinkling. I think we got upgraded for our room; it was huge, clean and very comfortable - there was even a fold-down sofa! The bathroom was massive, though a tad poorly designed, since the shower was in the far corner and the drain was in the opposite corner behind the door, so the water streams past the door. Perhaps providing some rubber bathroom flip flops would be a good idea, since I slipped and almost fell when entering the bathroom after my gf took a shower. Lastly, the owners were friendly, especially the man who was always smiling and above-and-beyond courteous. The lady organized tuk-tuk transport for us in the morning to the bus station. The only thing that we weren't happy about is that they didn't have the bus schedule handy or took the effort to find out for us. We were told the bus to Pakse was at 8AM, so we arrived at the station for 730am to find out the bus times are 7am & 930am and onwards, so we sat around in the heat for 1.5 hours. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Pilgrims and would definitely stay again the next time we're in Pakse.

The hotel is good . The room is excellent. And the staff are accommodating.... the only problem is that based on the hotel feature you posted on agoda page the rooms in the hotel has wifi.. you stated there that all rooms has wifi.. too disappointing coz i went there for business and i needed internet connection that is why i chose this hotel.. then it was a big surprise when the staff said the wifi ia only at the lobby.. so i state at the lobby about the whole night.. :(

I used to stay at Hoong Thip for its convenience and close proximity to the Thai embassy. However, since it became too expensive (1k baht per night) i decided to look elsewhere. I found this hotel to be the perfect place. The room was nice and big but the garden was ideal for passing the time in a very relaxed atmosphere. The manager even went to the store for my friends to pick up some edibles. The room was nice with a big bathroom and hot water. Although i spent most of my time in the garden rewinding. I'll be going back there for future visa runs. If you stay, call the hotel and let him speak to a tuk tuk driver before embarking on a journey to look for it - the name is difficult to pronounce. It took me about 10 mins in tuk tuk to arrive at the hotel from the new embassy. Yes, the Thai embassy has been relocated.

Overall I was very happy with my 2 nights here. The hotel looks very new. My room was bright and very clean and the bathroom wasn't gross at all. I'm very picky about bathrooms. Nice tile floors, a fridge, nice fluffy duvet and pillows. The staff hardly spoke any English, but they are very nice and try to help the best they can. The young man at reception offered to share his meal with me, some of it was bugs, and tried to get an adapter for my laptop because the plug wouldn't fit. Yeah I couldn't charge my laptop, the room won't take a North American 3 prong plug. I ended up charging it at a cafe. It's far away from all the action, but he'll book a tuktuk or van for you, affordable fair. Or you can just flag a tuktuk down on the street. There are a few local places to eat around, and small convenience stores for snacks or whatever, local style.

This place is large and was fairly empty when I arrived. Its as if the town doesn't quite support this level of operation quite yet. Workers lounged around lazily in the spa waiting for customers who never showed, and the pool was mostly frequented in the evenings by locals who obviously were paying for pool access. The rooms are quite nice, well designed with gorgeous balconies, great curtains for blocking out the light, and all the extra luxuries one would expect in an expensive hotel , this hotel is quite expensive for Laos. Staff are remarkably friendly. The drivers will pick you up, drop you off, and take you on errands. The breakfast was quite lovely... So, when you consider the money saved for taxis and breakfast, the price really is reasonable. I really enjoyed the hotel. I went there after several days in a cheaper guest house. For me, it was a really nice treat for my last day in Savannakhet.

Nice and quiet hotel, occupied multiple buildings. It is about 4 km from the Thai Consulate to the north by main road 9W and a little after turn to the left, you can find it on google maps. There is Lee mart on the right side just before the turn, 7/11 analogue. Also many restaurants with good prices after turn, working at evening too. Wi-fi stuck sometimes, easy resolved with stuff. Also stuff was not aware that breakfast included, resolved with Agoda support chat. On breakfast ate rice with green curry, some chicken bouillon with pieces of chicken and potato. Also there are omelets, instant coffee, cacao and tea.

Agoda asks is this hotel is the best hotel in the world. Daft question for a 1 star hotel. This isn't even the best 1 star hotel in the world. But it is adequate and fair for the price. On the positive side it is only a 10 minute walk to the Mekong River and a block from one of the main shopping streets in Savannakhet. My room was large with attached bathroom and I had the whole building to myself. There was a good balcony to sit on to observe the street life below. Good wifi in the reception area but very weak and intermittent in my room. My room wasn't cleaned during my time there (my choice) but bottled drinking water was left outside each day. On the negative side, my booking was recorded but not the room price: on Agoda I booked a basic standard room, but the guy at reception only knew rooms by the rate. He had to ask me how much I paid, which I could not remember: Agoda listed two types of rooms and two prices, the hotel has four room rates. My room clearly did not see a lot of service, there was a large amount of dirt behind the door and dust under the bed. The mattress was hard (something commented on by other reviewers) but this didn't bother me. One towel rack in a twin room. No longer convenient for the Thai consulate since it relocated up past the bus station - a 40 minute walk or expensive tuk tuk trip away. Cheap but good quality food options in Savannakhet are very limited. On the corner of Kinnali and Khanthabouly Rds (opposite Vat Xaiyaphoum) there is a small restaurant (Lao name only) that serves great food at affordable prices. Open 1100-2200, closed Sundays. Very highly recommended.

Wifi = *none* or minimal/non-functional Room: Clean; air con & fan; fridge; lovely hot water; TV Location: 20' walk to Bus station; 25' to Old Quarter Staff: Minimal or no English Karaoke bar next to hotel sometimes noisy. I stayed 3 nights. The 1st night it was loud till 2 AM; 2nd night only until 900 pm then quiet! 3rd night: as for 2nd. *** To get to the Old Quarter, turn LEFT when leaving hotel. Go straight down the road. After 10-15 minutes, the Old Market appears on your left. You are at the beginning of the old area. If you keep walking straight, you'll wind up in the Mekong River!

This hotel is close to the Thai embassy and prettu much opposite the international bus station, very convenient. I had a VIP suite which I normally don't get but this was nice. The bed was big, comfy and very soft. A huge bathroom and an even bigger tv, massive with lots of channels. The staff is friendly and helpful. the only downside to this place is there is no place to eat lunch or dinner. they do serve a good breakfast with (Thai) dishes and toast, fruit, coffee, tea

Overall i like this place out of the poor accommodations in savanakhet. Good:7mins walk to thai consulate. Great for visa run. I took vip room(700baht)(superior room in agoda site) which has a spacious living room and bed room with 2 tv(though only lao, vietnam, thai channels) and 2 air conditioning with comfy bed and good hot shower. Wifi available only at reception area. Bad: when i showed up with agoda's hotel voucher, the female receptionist seemed puzzled as if never seen one before. I had to wait for 20mins while she contacts agoda to sort out their payment problem etc. she spoke little english and did not smile much. Having said that, the hotel is clean and nice. Next time ii will just walk in to get a room closer to the reveptionn so that i might be able to use wifi in my room. PS.This hotel is called LOTUS Hotel, lao name is dok boua savan hotel.

arriving at savannaketh bus terminal none of the many tuc tuc drivers knew the hotel, and not even the address. calling several times the number mentioned in my booking reference neither was successful, as nobody ever answered. has to search for a new hotel - still the money was deducted from my credit card (still waiting for refund). tip for agoda: maybe print some driving directions in lao transcript on the booking statement, so that local tuc tuc drivers are able to read them .... i rated the hotel as 3 though, as otherwise the comment cannot be posted.

Firstly, it is a family run Guest House. They will go out of their way to understand your needs. Breakfast is not included, but I was invited to join the family for local breakfast. One morning it was vietnamese, not exactly what you are use to, but good. As the place is away from the city, the family gladly drives you where you want to go in Savannakhet. They gave me a phone no. to call when I wanted to be picked up in the evening. I kind got to know them well, as we would sit around in their lounge, in the evening , talking, using sign language. All the shyness you first saw, had all vanished.
