Best Ryokan in Shizuoka Prefecture

I reserved non-smoking room, but I was assigned somking room. After severe clain, I could barely reassigned. I think it was because I was foreigner. The location was very inconvinient. Too far from Hamamatsu city, and insufficient outside restaurant.

The best word to describe my experience in staying at Yokikan was "Excellent!" Yokikan is just a short walk from the heart of downtown Ito, but since I had been traveling much of the day to get to Ito I took a cab from Ito Station to the Ryokan. The front desk immediately reimbursed me for the cab! Multiple staff greeted me by name at the front door and the assis...

Stayed 2 nights at K's House (Ito) with my family from 31 Mar - 01 Apr 2016. It's an old traditional Japanese style ryokan, with natural onsen facilities. We booked the double bed room with river view and from the balcony, you can relax the view was great. The room is in Japanese style tatami flooring with futon beds - very spacious room, very neat and clean. Apart fro...

Our stay was quite a comfortable one. The bedding was very comfortable and clean. The major issue we had was location. We were lucky enough to have some locals help us find the place, otherwise, we would have gotten pretty lost in the dark. Checking in was relatively smooth, but it becomes an issue you when asking for assistance as the staff only speak Japanese. The...

Very good, memorable stay at this hotel; the views of the Pacific Ocean from the private onsen were breathtaking ! The 2-storey villa was well-furnished in the traditional Japanese style, but with all the modern amenities and facilities which made the it very comfortable. We had a superb kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast the following day, with excellent service th...

A very nice ryokan located up a slope in the quiet town of Izunokuni. Very friendly host even though she doesn’t speak English. Wonderful meals during our stay. We had a good sleep there, should have stayed another night. We left our luggages at the ryokan to visit Awashima Island. The owner sent us to the jetty. After our trip to the island we took a bus to Numazu t...

Wonderful Ryokan Experience. We were greeted when our car is approaching. They waved us goodbye continuously till we cannot see them anymore while we drove off. Food was splendid, fresh and sumptuous. Service is top notched. Only setback is only one staff (or the manager) can speak English. Otherwise, we had to make guess of the Service Staffs whom can speak very littl...

We've lived in Japan nearly 4 years and stayed at a few ryokans. They are all older properties, and the condition of the hotels based on price often shocks foreign travelers. This inn was very cozy though, and stood out because of the amenities available: a DVD library with lots of indie flicks and choices in English, extra large yukata for big foreign guests like us, ...

Staff had little knowledge of English, still tried their best to make our stay comfortable. Room was good size and had everything we needed. Food provided at breakfast and dinner were more than adequate. We particularly like the hotel location which is just a little outside the town and easy walk/drive to get to the Sakura along the river.

This is a typical Japanese spa resort hotel by the sea. My room was a little larger than the usual narrow Japanese hotel rooms. I was in fact given a room with 3 beds when I was a solo traveller. It was comfortable and offered a small sofa and chairs and tables for a small gathering. It was a room with a "Shinkansen view" which literally means I could see the trains pa...

Stayed at Hinodeya for 3 nights (4-7 Mar 2015). At first glance, the facilities are a little old and dated, shared bathroom and toilets but the whole place is kept very clean. And the longer I stayed, the more I intereacted with the owners, the charm of this little ryokan deepened. Come to this ryokan if you desire warm attentive yet non-intrusive service. Tetsuya-san ...

Very pleasant! Located by the seaside (although facing a highway), this quiet and semi-traditional Ryokan is worth the price you pay for. It is not cheap, but opt for the traditional tatami rooms (only two out of seven rooms) with meals included. You might be surprised initially that other local guests have different dinner plans, especially with lobster and other fanc...

Our stay was amazing, as second time visitors to Arai Ryokan (first time 2006 we were childless and this time 2015 we came with our son) we were so happy to see the place being run really well. We wanted our son to have an appreciation of a ryokan experience and were so happy with the welcoming environment at Arai. From the moment we arrived it was like being transpo...

This was the first time my daughter and I visited Izu Peninsula. We stayed in a suite with private onsen at the balcony. The room was clean and spacious, and the sea view was gorgeous. The gentleman working at the reception counter was extremely polite and helpful. When we were leaving on the next day, the bus to the train station was going to depart in a few minutes ...

We were 3 Americans who had never stayed in a ryokan before, but were looking for that Japanese experience. This hotel exceeded our expectations! Our room had a large tatami area with futons, and also a sitting area with big windows and a great views over the town. There was a full bathroom inside our room, as well as the showers in the onsen. The option of 3 private o...

We had such a lovely stay here. It was a highlight of the trip. We booked one night with dinner and breakfast included, and arrived at the hotel at around 4:30pm. Staff were so welcoming, taking our bags and shoes and showing us to our room. We had time to walk to the beach - Black volcanic sand and rolling waves, and nice to be in nature. Then we had a brilliant dinne...

This ryokan was amazing. The room was gorgeous and the breakfast was fantastic. Waking up at the crack of dawn to enjoy the sunrise in the private onsen bath was amazing. I will say that Atami was a little on the quieter side, so was a little difficult to find things to do there, and I missed the part about sending an email 3 days prior to make a dinner reservation at ...

We stayed one night and loved the area. It was a 30-40 minute bus ride from the station (which at first I was a bit bugged by the distance) but the location was amazing! It was walking distance from Lake Hamana and from Kanzanji temple and trail around the peninsula was a fun afternoon activity. The staff at the Ryokan was so friendly and helpful (and fyi the onsen u...

From the point where we were ushered into the welcoming front sliding doors to our departure, service was always top notch! The dinner was magnificent kaiseki meal. Unforgetable and plenty of different tastes! We had specific diet requests all of which was accommodated! Our room had an onsen bath attached where you could have a soak or two. Could not bear to leave!

Only con was that the ryokan male staff did not knock first before entering the room to make the futons for bedtime. What if we were undressing at the time? We were taken aback throughout our two nights stay there. Other than this, it was definitely a value for money accommodation place to explore Ito.

It was not cheap to stay at, but this hotel is worth to visit again. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic! It's a little bit far away from the nearest station (Atami station), but the room itself was quiet and I enjoyed my stay. Each room has private open bath and it's available for 24/7. I couldn't remember how many times I enjoyed hot spring. Next time if I have a cha...

My partner and I stayed in this lovely Ryokan for 1 night, and we couldn't be happier with our stay! The incredible hospitality started when we got on the shuttle van that picked us from the station. We got picked up by Ms. Watanabe who welcomed us with hot tea and warm towels in the van which felt perfect in the cold February weather. Once we got to the Ryokan we we...

The ryokan is facing to Pacific Ocean. Great ocean view and moonlight. Fantastic facilities and private onsens! Near to Izu-Hokkawa Station, by walk from the station is good choice if don't heavy luggages. Not convenient for eating if don't choice dinner served by the ryokan. There is just one restaurant and one alcohol store nearby and the closing time is 20:30, too e...

It is a decent size ryokan with excellent services and cleanliness. The location of the ryokan is about 20 minutes drive from Atami station, it might sounds far but you will get the best of the serenity and sunrise view from the ryokan overlooking the ocean. They have scheduled transportation to the station, which make it convenience. Breakfast was spectacular, traditi...

A modernised Japanese style hotel, all flooring is covered by tatami and therefore just walk around the hotel with bare foot, socks are also provided. Spacious room with comfortable beds, suits with bathroom and toilet. We didn't use during our stay because the private Orsen room is more spacious for shower with more than enough amenities. There are 4 private Orsen Roo...

We were heading to Shizuoka and decided to take a detour to Izu peninsula to experience this ryokan. Overall, we had a good experience here staying for 1 night. The Onsen (we've tried a handful) has one of the most scenic views facing the pacific ocean. The amenities / toiletries of their bath house had generous selection of facial products, facial cleansers, etc. An...

For traveller who like to experience local Japanese ryokan (bed and breakfast kind of feeling) We arrived late by car without dinner reservation, the staff was willing to prepare a nice meal for us. Food was fantastic. The location is off the main road. However with a great sea view. The only downside was no private toilet in the room.

The ryokan experience is very special to Japan and this inn does not disappoint. The welcome greeting was pleasant, the room very basic but well appointed, and I liked the various choices of onsen, including the outdoor rotenburo. The non-reserved rotenburo were actually more pleasing than the family reserved one. The meals were extravagant, plentiful and exotic. F...

Beautiful private onsen (4 types) for couples or families and the service was very excellent! Staff went out of the way to make our stay perfect. The futons were also super comfortable and thicker than usual. By far one the best ryokans we stayed at!

The staff was amazing and made our stay the best it could be. We mostly enjoyed our view from our room and the private bath tub and the food of course. There is not much else to do around here, but that was totally fine with us. Amazing experience, thank you!

The customer services of ALL the staff at this ryokan were top notched .(At the time of our booking),the price of this ryokan was reasonable compared to other places in Atami area. We picked the option w breakfast/dinner and they were served in our room. All food were beautifully created with many selections. They offer free shuttle services to and from Ajiro station....

I wanted to try a Ryokan and have dinner there... turned out to be one of the best Japanese experiences I ever had. Not only the Ryokan itself was fantastic in terms of design and facilities (nice open air bath, beautiful gardens, cozy room which is essentially like a traditional Japanese apartment). The staff goes above and beyond to deliver an unforgettable experienc...

This ryokan was lovely. We were a group of 3 and the room was lovely and big enough for all of us with all mod cons needed. The large bath on the 7th floor was lovely and had an outdoor pool and the private bath we had was sheer luxury! Dinner was great, it was unusually as it was a fusion of Western and Japanese. To be very honest I would have preferred a full Japan...

I live in Japan not far from the hotel so am familiar with Japanese hospitality and cleanliness. My friends - visiting from Germany, the UK and Canada - were blown away by the place... they loved it. The lobby lounge is very comfortable and tastefully decorated in a modern style, and has a panoramic ocean view. You can relax here with a freshly brewed coffee (free o...

Great place and couldn't ask for more.. Our breakfast and dinner were great. We booked semi suite with private bath and even though not cheap but really worth it. Helpful, well-manner staff and provide very good service to us. I would definitely recommend my friend who travel to Atami to stay in this hotel.

There are other hostek or budget inn around, but you cant find on these booking web, so Ruikoen is the only choice. Anw, for a vacation, its the best opyion. Good dinner and breakfast, becausr there is no restaurant around open if you come late (5pm) or leave soon (8am)

The ryokan is perched on a steep slope facing the sea, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The room has an unblocked view of the ocean - an absolute treat to wake up to. The room was very nicely done up and I wish I had stayed a little longer! However, I wouldn’t recommend this to those driving. Our hosts had warned us against driving to the ryokan, but a...

We enjoyed our honeymoon trip in Asaba Ryokan. The hot spring is very comfortable and give our body through relaxing, the spirit will be energized as well as the body relaxed. what is worth mentioning is that the dinner inside the room, smooth service and grateful attitude of the staff always make us feel at home. Thank you,Asaba Ryokan!

- Food is truly superb, esp the sashimi plate and barbecued abalone. Basically the best Japanese food I have ever had in my lifetime. - Location-wise, not too convenient for travellers and would take one hour of bus ride from the nearest railway station 修善寺駅. But the hotel would arrange for transportation to and from the nearest bus station. - Super-friend staff and ex...

A lovely quaint hotel with great staff and facilities. Dinner, bed and breakfast in todays travels is rare so I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of food on offer. Beer on tap along with wine was also included. The onsen was spotless. Overall, it was such a great experience that I will certainly make a second (and longer) visit when next in Japan. Tha...

Chose this hotel because of excellent review, price and location. If you missed the last hotel shuttle ( like us from Izu-Atagawa station then you can still walk to hotel (< 10 min and down hill) with luggage from hakkawa station though there are few stairs when exit the station. In addition, the outdoor seaside Hakkawa Onsen is right next to the hotel (free for ho...

It was only an overnight stopover for me on my bicycle trip around the izu peninsular. I did not venture outside the hotel, and I did not use the spa facilities, so I can offer a good opinion (hence 3 stars from me: perhaps they deserve a higher mark). The evening buffet was huge; so many choices, so much fantastic seafood, and all of it delicious. Certainly that was t...

This was a unique way to immerse ourselves in Japanese cult. We were the only foreigners staying at this ryokan and although the staff spoke very limited English they did their best to communicate with us. They made us feel at home and fed us very well, which was a big challenge since I am vegan. However they did their best to adjust the menu for me and I really apprec...
