best option if you value a great beach and food”
Not really an "eco" village, as the lodge runs on a generator, but solar power has some advantages. Nice wood lodge managed by foreigners with friendly and hard-working local staff. Tried several of the resorts on Saracen Bay and the food here is easily the best on the beach. It's also a good value. The tent bungalows have solar-charged batteries, and there's usually enough juice to keep a fan going throughout the night. But the tents get much hotter than bungalows during the day - and if the flies of mozzies get in, you've got problems. The mattress on the floor is ok, but the bedding could be better. They really should clean the grotty outside of the tents. The tent bungalows are quiet at night except for the sounds of animals, including a few rats that scurried around the outside of the tent. If it were a wood or thatch bungalow, they would have been all over the bed. Each tent is under a thatch cover and has its own separate bathroom with cold water - can be very cold in the morning. The beach here is arguably the cleanest and prettiest stretch on the bay. Didn't have any problems with sandflies, but there are plenty of small jellyfish to sting you.

Interesting trip”
Food's very good. Staff so friendly. But I was a bit disappointed with the bath water, and electricity facilities. I was no water in the shower, and the fan is a bit small for 2 to 3 people. But in general, everything is great. Thanks Sun Island Eco Village. See you next time.

Amazing location but very disappointing resort”
Now don't get me wrong...the location of this resort is idyllic with a stunning stretch of beach, baked by virgin jungle, however, I was very disappointed with my stay at the Sun Island Eco Village. Firstly my bungalow was behind the main lodge and right next to the noisy generator which ran from 6pm with a view of a dirty coloured lagoon which harboured mosquitoes and served no purpose. To get to my bungalow I had to walk past what appeared to be the washing and laundry area for the workers, not my idea of a view. The main lodge was where the restaurant was and needed a good clean, it just feels run down and in need of some TLC. The staff’s children are running around and screaming whilst you are eating or trying to relax. The only barman with good English worked at least 15 hours a day none stop and was clearly worn out. The other local barman was often rude and mixed up orders with no apology. I was left an hour waiting for a drink and toasty and when I asked if my order had been missed I was shrugged at and told 'I don’t know!' not my idea of customer service. There are only a handful of sun beds available and failing that you can lie on the beach and risk the nasty sand flies biting you. My bungalow was a simple straw and wooden hut but I found it dark and depressing. I visited the other side of the island which is a prime example of how to do this type of resort to a high standard with service being second to none when I visited.

Great clean beach, quiet and relaxing environment”
It was quite a shock after check in to a tent, but after that we got use to a natural conditions and we liked it. Tent is simple, but with a fan, which allows to sleep well. Belongins are good to keep in a restaurant safe, so all to do in Koh Rong Samloem is resting at a beach, reading or small hikes to a various beaches. Good snorkeling or diving around the island. When the weather is nice, it is really a great experience to stay at Koh Rong Samloem for 2 - 3 days.

Fun-tas-tic! Robinson Crusoe castaway style!”
We loved it, and will be back! The island is lovely and empty, and not having telephones and internet and electricity and stuff really keeps you away from the vices, noises and intrusion of so called civilization. The restaurant was great, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and cheerful. The tent bungalow is nice, directly on the beach ... thought you need to be clear that it is a tent placed under a thatched roof, with an own shower and toilet hut.

Normal stay”
Koh Rong Samloem is a beautiful island, without phone nor internet so just relax with nature. If you remember how natural it is, and come without much expectation about modern luxury facilities, you will be fine. The hotel is situated at Saracen beach (1st stop of speed boat), just few steps from the pier. My friend and me stayed in a tent. Everything was basic and acceptable. Actually it was not bad if we didn't have the issue with water and then, no treated water for 2 days 1 night (which was much uncomfortable). The hotel gave us a discount as compensation and we know it was unexpected issue, but it would have been a perfect holiday if there had not been such a problem.

tranquil”
Stayed In the tent right on the beach and loved It. It's a quiet and peaceful beach which was perfect for us but might not be the best If you're Into partying. food was fantastic and not unreasonably priced considering you're on an island. we would happily go back!

Great Island. Decent accommodation ”
We stayed in a bungalow which is not actually on the beach but close enough. You go around the back. We had heard there are issues with sand flies but we had no problems with this. The beach was clean and the water was crystal blue. We felt this part of the beach looked better than other parts. The restaurant food was nice and reasonably prices. Food between $3 to $10. Our bungalow was nice and big. The showers were good. The whole island uses grey water.

Much better places to stay ”
Usually I do not write bad reviews. However, our stay at Sun Island Eco was awful. Do not stay in the bungalows, they are situated next to a swap which smells and brings a lot of miskitos. The bungalow also had a lot of holes and the shared bathrooms were blocked. We paid for an upgrade to the tents which did not have locks (luckily we had our own padlock). For an "eco" resort the power runs 24/7 this also means the light in your tent does not turn off as there is no switch. The fan in the tent also gets extremely hot, so I wouldn't recommend leaving it on over night. The Khamer staff were friendly, although on our first day of stay we asked to use the laundry service. After waiting 3 days we spoke to a German man, who we believe to be the owner (I may be incorrect, he has slicked back hair and glasses). He gave us back our laundry which had not been washed. After querying this, he asked me "so what is your point". Not wanting to cause a fuss I requested that the charge was taken off our room and that seemed to be the end of it. On check out I brought our shared tea towel sized towel to the reception (which we were given for use in the showers, which were also blocked). I paid for a bottle of water, when paying for the water. The man on the desk requested that I paid for our laundry. I explained that we had spoken to him the day before and the laundry had not been done and the clothes were still dirty. Even though we had discussed this previously, he did not believe me and explained that he had already paid for the laundry to be done himself. It was not until I said I would go and get the laundry that he said it doesn't matter. Due to the owner making me feel so uncomfortable, we spent a lot of time at other places. One of these times we went to Lazy Beach and the owner of Eco Village made an appearance, not speaking to any of the Lazy Beach bar staff but instead scoping out the place, then making a sharp exit. No suprise Sun Eco is quiet.

Ambience and safe”
I found the place littered Not just eco village but the entire beach So I cleaned it Apart from that and not having towels and enough light for the first night everything was basic but ok

Paradise Island !!”
I stayed in a luxury tent, it was basic but clean and comfortable. There is no mains electric so no air/con. A paradise island comes at some costs !! The staff were fantastic and attentive. I would visit again, no problem.

Beach resort ”
The bungalows are very basic. There are small holes in the wall. Not big enough for humans, but small animals. Because you are very close to a small forest, there are huge lizards, and a lot of insects (cockroaches, spiders, ants, etc.). These are probably all around on the island, but the wooden floor leaves enough space for the to come in. Don't leave any food in your bungalow - even though it is in a plastic bag, because animals (we had a mouse or rat) love it. Due to the fact it is on an island, everything is a bit more pricy, however it is still cheap. The owner is a very nice German guy and helps you out on every concern. The menu is a bit limited, but reach item we tried was good. Unfortunately the Cambodians do not care very much about the environment, so the sea or beach might be a bit dirty (rubbish). On our walk over the beach strip however, that did not only apply to the resort , but for the whole beach / country. The beach was very nice anyway and the crystal clear water very refreshing. We spend 4 days just relaxing, reading and swimming. The area is calm and you probably go to bed at 10 pm.

Expecting much more.....”
Very mixfeelings.... While we were in paradise, we came up in a resort where you can find very good and very bad within minutes.... Starting with the food, breakfast is very poor and well below standards; I went to other resort and paid less than ECO was charging. Nevertheless, dinner is excellent!!! I ate all days there. Rooms are very basic, even the ones are more expensive. Bed is very unconfortable, no wifi on the entire resort, not possible to charge any device in the room and no hot water.

Peaceful, natural, island escape. ”
We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely return. It was perfect for what we wanted: comfortable and low-key living, with easy-access to the beach, beautiful sunrise and sunset vistas, friendly staff and natural surrounds, with dense jungle to explore.

No internet to escape fro life”
It was great. Long beautiful beach with no internet that makes you feel living in a wild island. Staffs were nice but they're overloaded, that makes them look tired.

not much good to say”
Don't bother just because it's easy to book on Agoda. There are many other much much cleaner and comfortable accommodation s on the island. In hindsight I'd make the extra effort to call and book directly to any other place. All accommodation on Koh Rong Samloem is beach front. The price we paid compared to other places on the island was not at all worth it. Also the guy who runs the place could care less about much.

Excellent place to stay for some time out.”
This was a great place to stay to be still and escape the hustle and bustle of Sihanoukville. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Beach is beautiful!”
The Khmer staff was lovely! They played pool with us all night and were just great guys...the beach was about 10yards from my hotel room. It was beautiful!! But, I didn't have the best experience here. I'm not sure if it was that they were not ready for the high season...I booked one room and got a different one completely. They told me when I arrived. I asked for a fan but only had a tiny one and it broke the second night. The bathroom did not function properly and I asked them to fix it, but they did not so I had to use the public bathroom, but I still paid for a room with a private bathroom.

Rude staff extra USD25 to reach the island”
Paradise Ruined. The staff where unbelievably rude. I just don't get what they where thinking. We would never go back and with there attitude no one else should. Tried to chat to them, they did not give a hoot about us - waiting at the bar for a drink, owner is there sitting having a beer so try and have a chat, one word responses, finishes his beer and goes and serves his friend who has just got to the bar. Clearly likes only one type of person. I don't want to be rude to him but thank god you left the UK, mate! The owners needs to get of this business if he wants to treat people like this. Rooms where only cleanish, decor was rubbish much better option in the other hotels. We stayed in the most expensive option in the hotel i would have expected much better. Costs will add up here. Dinner at the hotel restaurant had no atmosphere, owners kids where running around making a huge racket. Food was not worth the money. We had a drink at another hotel it was so much better. Wish we had stayed somewhere else, a lovely island ruined by the staff and owners.
